Fifty Kyocera Multifunctional Devices Now Certified To The New Blue Angel Standard

23 June 2014

All told, fifty of Kyocera Document Solutions’ printers and multifunction devices have now received the new RAL-UZ 171 Blue Angel eco label. Every printer and multifunction device in Kyocera’s ECOSYS and TASKalfa series meets the standards of both Germany’s federal environment agency and Blue Angel’s environmental jury. And each of these products now bears the well-known Blue Angel eco label.

“When it comes to the environment-friendliness of our products, we are relentless in our efforts to increase performance. Certification according to the new Blue Angel standard is clear evidence our investment is paying dividends,” explains Detlef Herb, Environmental and Product Safety Manager with Kyocera Document Solutions. To receive the Blue Angel designation, office printing equipment must comply with a host of criteria to ensure its biologically and environmentally safe qualities. These include recyclable design, strict noise emission and indoor pollution requirements, and energy consumption (TEC) standards that apply for equipment both when it is idling and when it is printing.

Eco-friendliness belongs to Kyocera’s tradition

Blue Angel is one of the oldest and best-known eco labels. It provides consumers with invaluable assistance in their search for particularly eco-friendly products. In 1997, Kyocera was the first manufacturer of printers to obtain the Blue Angel designation. Since then, the Japanese company has continuously received the highly desirable label for its products. “Ever since the appearance of ECOSYS technology on the market, the name Kyocera has been synonymous with environment-friendly document management solutions,” says Oliver Kreth, General Manager European Marketing. “Our commitment to the environment is also apparent from our many activities to protect the environment, including the German Environment Prize and incentives in Asia to green up buildings. We are very proud to have the Blue Angel label on our products, as it confirms our faithfulness to this very important cause.”

About Blue Angel

The Blue Angel (Der Blaue Engel) is a German certification for products and services that have environmentally friendly aspects. It has been awarded since 1978 by the Jury Umweltzeichen, a group of 13 people from environment and consumer protection groups, industry, unions, trade, media and churches.

Blue Angel is the oldest ecolabel in the world, and it covers some 10,000 products in some 80 product categories.

After the introduction of Germany’s Blue Angel in 1978 as the first worldwide environmental label, other European and non-European countries followed this example and introduced their own national and supra-regional environmental labels. The common goal of these labels is to inform consumers about environmentally friendly products thereby giving global support to product-related environmental protection.
