Kyocera Multifunctional Products and Printers Attain Silver EPEAT® Registration
20 March 2014
KYCOCERA Document Solutions Inc., a leading manufacturer of document imaging solutions and document management systems, today announced its multifunctional products (MFPs) and printers are now Silver registered with EPEAT®, a definitive global rating system for green electronics in the United States.
Furthermore KYOCERA will aim for EPEAT Gold registration for future products, and thus increase customer satisfaction by promoting products that contribute to its social needs to protect the environment, taking into account all phases of the product life-cycle including the production phase, product use phase, and the disposal/recycling phase.

EPEAT (Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool) rates products on a lifecycle basis and is used to promote the development and sale of green electronics. EPEAT is used as a standard for government purchasing in the United States and seven other national governments. It is also used by thousands of regional governments, universities and businesses worldwide.
In 2006 EPEAT was first adopted to evaluate PC and display equipment, and in 2013 expanded to cover imaging equipment including MFPs and printers. The 59 environmental criteria for imaging equipment include 33 mandatory criteria such as recovery and recycling of products and consumables. Products that meet all mandatory criteria are eligible for bronze registration. Products that meet all mandatory and 50% of option criteria are eligible for silver, while gold registration for those that in addition meet 75% of the optional criteria.
EPEAT is the definitive global rating system for greener electronics. EPEAT combines strict, comprehensive criteria for design, production, energy use and recycling with ongoing independent verification of manufacturer claims. More than 646 million EPEAT-registered products have been sold worldwide since 2006, resulting in significant environmental benefits (http://www.epeat.net/about-epeat/environmental-benefits/). EPEAT was developed through a stakeholder consensus process and is managed by the Green Electronics Council (http://www.greenelectronicscouncil.org/), a non-profit organization based in Portland, Oregon, USA.
